Psychological Services is a
program at Fresno City College and Reedley College designed to help meet the
mental health needs of the college community.
The following information is
specific to Fresno City College.
Working with Counseling and
Health Services, Psychological Services offers assistance in
a number of areas, including: Personal Growth, Crisis Resolution,
Daily Living Problems, Relationship and Family Issues, and as
a Support Network for students with more serious Emotional Disorders.
How Do I Make My First Appointment?
You may stop in at
Fresno City College Student Health Services Office between the
hours of 8:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday or
between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. on Friday. All initial appointments
are scheduled through the Health Services office. Subsequent
appointments are scheduled with your therapist.
How Fast Can I Get An Appointment?
Appointments are usually
available within three to five days of your initial request for
services. However, at certain times of the semester this wait
may be longer.
Emergencies
Students experiencing
psychological emergencies should make this known when they stop
in and can be seen immediately or within a matter of hours depending
on the nature of the crisis.
Who is Eligible to Receive
Services?
Psychological Services
provides brief, individual therapy to all students of the State
Center Community College District (SCCCD) who are currently enrolled.
Will There Be Any Fees?
All individual therapy sessions are free to eligible students.
If psychological testing is necessary, it will also be done at
no cost to eligible students.
Where Will My Appointment
Be?
Initial contacts and
appointments with Psychological Services are made through the
Health Services office located in the Student Services Building
on both campuses. Upon setting your initial appointment, the
Health Services office will direct you to the location of the
Psychological Services office. Any subsequent appointments will
be handled directly with your therapist and you will be seen
in the Psychological Services office.
What Can I Expect From My
First Appointment?
Your first appointment will last approximately one hour. Your
therapist will discuss with you the reason(s) you are requesting
psychological services. Your therapist will also ask you questions
about your personal history, your social and intimate relationships,
your educational goals, and your expectations for therapy.
At the end of the appointment
you and your therapist will decide how to best use the available
resources. You may set up another appointment, or be referred
to another resource, for example, an off-campus therapist, your
physician, or community agency.
Available Time for Appointments
At Fresno City College,
the times available for appointments with the Psychological Interns
or Trainees are between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.,
Monday through Friday. However, Thursday and Friday mornings
between 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. will not be available.
