Basic Requalification Course

This 9 weekend course is targeted to those persons who have previously completed a P.O.S.T. certified basic course, or have previously been deemed to have completed equivalent training, or have been awarded a P.O.S.T. certificate, but have a three year or longer break in service as a California Peace Officer/Level I Reserve Officer. This course is also targeted to lateral entry law enforcement officers from out-of-state who are required by P.O.S.T. to attend as a part of the Basic Course Waiver Process.

Course Description

This 144 hours course offers updated information in the use of force, laws of arrest, search and seizure, criminal law, patrol procedures, and other areas including firearms training, and arrest & control techniques. There is a comprehensive written final examination, scenario testing, and exercise tests to demonstrate the student's proficiency with the handgun, shotgun, and arrest & control techniques.

The recertification course is NOT a retraining course and assumes that students have maintained proficiency in basic skills and knowledge. The course is presented in an advanced officer format. Uniforms are not required and there is no physical training component of the course. However, students will be required to participate in some physical activity during weaponless defense training, impact weapons training and range training.

Out-Of-State Student Fees

Students who have not resided in California for at least the last twelve months and one day prior to the start of the semester in which the course is presented, will be charged an additional $402.00 out-of-state tuition.
