ASL1 BEGINNING AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE

4 units, 4 lecture hours, (formerly ASL 1A)

Advisory: eligibility for English 125 and 126 or English 153 or ESL 67 and 68 recommended.

First semester American Sign Language and its usefulness as a means of communication with the deaf/severely hearing impaired. An introduction to the culture of the deaf community and the literary and artistic contribution of this culture. Designed for students with no knowledge of ASL. (A, CSU-GE, UC)

ASL2 HIGH-BEGINNING AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE

4 units, 4 lecture hours, (Formerly ASL 1B)

Advisory: Eligibility for English 125 and 126 or English 153 or ESL 67 and 68 recommended. American Sign Language 1 or equivalent recommended.

Second semester beginning American Sign Language and its usefulness as a means of communication with the deaf community and the literary and artistic contribution of this culture. (A, CSU-GE, UC)

ASL3 INTERMEDIATE AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE

4 units, 4 lecture hours, (Formerly ASL 2A)

Advisory: Eligibility for English 125 and 126 or English 153 or ESL 67 and 68 recommended.

First semester intermediate American Sign Language. A formal method of thinking, organizing, receiving and sending non-verbal messages in American Sing Language. The cultural context of the community for which American sing language serves as the primary language. (A, CSU-GE, I)

ASL4 HIGH-INTERMEDIATE AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE

4 units, 4 Lecture hours, (formerly ASL 2B)

Advisory: Eligibility for English 125 and 126 or English 153 or ESL 67 and 68 recommended. American Sign Language 3 or equivalent recommended.
